I stumbled upon quilting by challenge.
The first quilt I made was a blue and yellow chevron quilt that I found through a quilt along and I wanted to see if I could do it. It took a little while, but I sewed the entire thing with my impulsively bought sewing machine sitting on the box that it came in, on the floor of the playroom in my parents' house.
But I did it.
After the first quilt came a Harry Potter inspired triangle quilt (my own pattern, my first big mistake) for my best friend which nearly made me quit quilting forever and which I vastly underestimate the amount of time it would take to complete, and made me realize that I need to learn how to do math.
The Harry Potter quilt was interrupted by a secret American flag quilt for my mother's birthday, which I could only work on after 10 at night when she went to bed or when I had the day off of work. But it got done. With a day to spare.
The Harry Potter quilt was finished, and I only messed my own pattern up once. And one side is only five inches shorter than the other one so it could be worse. She still loved it so that makes it alright, right?
Once the Harry Potter quilt was finished I immediately jumped into another - a going away present for one of my favorite coworkers, and I had about 2 weeks to finish it before she left, and one of those weekends I was going to Rhode Island, and the last week I was going to visit the friend who the Harry Potter quilt was for in Minnesota for a week.
I cried a lot. One because I was going to miss my friend (appropriately named Violet) a lot, but also because I didn't think I would get it done in time.
But I did. At 2:30 AM on the day she was leaving. But I did it.
And then, because why stop there, I started working on a baby quilt for my cousin. This was the first quilt that I had started planning in advance, hoping that it would be something unique, and I managed to finish it a week before the shower for her little baby girl (due in just a few days now!!!)
My cousin ended up getting two quilts at her shower, one from me and one from her boss's mother, but she really loved it. And so did everyone else.
Last night I started piecing the top to a new HST baby quilt from scraps of Kona I had laying around. Cutting only took around 30 minutes, but I spent a few hours playing around with patterns. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and should be able to piece it next weekend when I go home!
I really love pink and gray as a color combination. And this would make such a cute quilt for a wall hanging or for a newborn photoshoot.
Anyway, this is going to be where I post about my current and future projects and hopefully learn a lot from some of you as well. I'm currently in that 21-year-old-senior-in-college stage where I realized that what I am getting my degree in is 100% not what I want to do with my life, so there may be some of that involved as well. And hopefully I'll get the hang of this formatting thing soon.
I apologize in advance.
